綱引きもまた沖縄各地で開催される伝統のイベント。そもそもは集落の豊作を占う行事で、勝った組が豊作（世果報＝ユガフ）、負けた組が凶作（餓死世）となる真剣勝負だというから大変である。那覇大綱引は有名。 首里では2007年に琉球王朝時代の「綾門大綱引き」が109年ぶりに復活となり、首里城開館15周年の記念イベントとして盛り上がった。２回綱をひいて１勝１敗とし、勝敗を重視しないものであったそう。 子供が小学生の頃に運動会で父母も大綱引に参戦したことがあったが、軍手をしっかりはめて両軍全く譲らない血を見んばかりの決戦だったと記憶している（笑）。 「１勝１敗」を基本とすれば、世の中もっと平和かも。
